The life of LeJog to be extended

It’s the toughest road rally in Europe, so tough, that half the field was decimated by the adverse weather in 2023. The LeJog Reliability Trial was just as the original rationale prescribed in 1993 by John Brown, but it also means it will be difficult to make it much harder and not devalue the original concept which is now in its 30^th year.

Thirty successful events on, after many challenging trials, organisers HERO-ERA have decided, in order to preserve the values and aims of such a demanding event, they will now need to give the event a well-earned break for 2024.

Guy Woodcock, HERO-ERA Competition Director explained; “We reached a zenith in terms of the ultimate challenge in 2023, precipitated by the weather – in fact between the competitors and us as organisers, we have never known anything like it, it really was the ultimate LeJog, according to the original recipe laid down by John Brown all those years ago.

“But now we want to keep it absolutely true to its values, and maintain its mantle as the toughest Reliability Trial in Europe.

“In order to preserve that heritage and keep the LeJog Spirit alive longer, we need to review the ethos of LeJog, so a year’s break will allow us to keep the event fresh, even change some aspects of the format to help maintain the unique endurance challenge it has always been.

“We are going to take stock, then devise and revitalise the next LeJog for 2025 which will be back with a vengeance, with a hard edge and in the spirit of the original. Competitors can expect new twists, not only to challenge existing Joggers from around the world, but also to encourage new entrants to take on the unique endurance challenge.”
