Scunthorpe to Darlington
The 21st edition sees the Rally move into a new era as after 10 years Clerk of the Course Guy Woodcock is passing the mantle to a new team of George Mullins, Andy Pullan and Seren Whyte to continue to deliver what is the ultimate test of both driving ability and endurance. If there was a choice of only ever doing one event again, many seasoned entrants would surely choose the beguiling and perennial RAC Rally of the Tests – The one they all want to win.
The 21st edition will honour the traditions of the past in the greatest possible fashion, with the team looking at new and old favourites for the route. Starting just south of the Humber near Scunthorpe and the event finishing near to Darlington, the rally will drive in the wheel tracks of past greats, scaling heights and standing on the shoulders of giants in Yorkshire and the North East plus venturing into new territory for the testers to enjoy. There will be challenges aplenty from the new team, but the biggest tribute will come in the form of a new route and areas and a competition that is always undertaken in reverence to our traditions and will undoubtedly be fought hard.

As is traditional on the RAC Rally of the Tests the action starts in the lanes around Lincolnshire for an hour or so of mild competition so get you into the swing of things before we head back to the hotel for the Welcome Dinner. We hope to include a novel spin during this year’s Prologue.
For our first full day it is an early start as we have a long day in prospect. We head South into the heart of Lincolnshire for a day exploring new territory to “Testers”, which has an abundance of quality tracks and venues for us to enjoy. After a day of varied competition we pass over the Humber Bridge for a series of challenging sections in the dark before descending on our Hotel for two night, located on the outskirts of York.
Day Two sees us head East, exploring the rolling countryside of the Yorkshire Wolds and the North Yorkshire Moors as a packed day of competition is sure to catch out the unwary. Forests, circuits and quality gravel tracks are the order of the day as the event once again charges into unfamiliar territory.
A scenic day heading North through North Yorkshire and Nidderdale sees us tackle some favourite venues of Testers new and old, with some stings in the tail to make sure crews are on top form right until the end.
This year, the competition team has tuned another version of RAC Rally of the Tests.
A lite, easier version, which will follow the back of the regular version of the rally. This is designed to retain a high number of quality, flowing tests but reduces the amount of sections in the dark and the amount of map plotting required by crews. This leads to an earlier finish each evening, enabling you to relax and unwind earlier at the hotel and gives those Test Pilots all the thrills, without the spills!
It will have its own awards, and is open for signing up – or transferring your entry now!
