HERO-ERA is delighted to announce the launch of its latest incarnation of a true classic, the 2021 Winter Challenge to Monte Carlo, taking place between 07/02/21 and 11/02/21. With a combination of history, a route that is second to none and winter rallying conducted in the finest traditions of the sport, this, as with previous incarnations of the event, will be one not to miss.
Utter the terms Monte Carlo and Rally in the same breath and the ears of those within hearing range will automatically prick up, even those with the most basic of motorsport knowledge, such is the association that the glittering principality has with rallying. But whilst the glitz and glamour of the terminus are one thing, the real star of the show here is the journey.
Tradition and History, From the Very Start!
Beginning in Reims, under the shadow of the Cathédrale Notre-Dame that has traditionally overseen the beginning of so many French rallying adventures, the lucky crews will tackle some of the greatest French roads over five days and encounter the motorsport history that touches so many places in France. From the beginning, through to Clermont-Ferrand, Millau, Ardeche and of course Monte-Carlo via the fearsome and awesome Col-de-Turini – the most famous Col of them all – the roads will be challenging. The views will be breath-taking and the experience of competitive, as well as traditional, winter rallying will be delivered with the usual excellence associated with HERO ERA, the leading event organiser in the sector.
As is traditional, night sections will also feature in the itinerary, and whilst the event may not be able to offer the night of the long knives, rest assured that the roads chosen for the nocturnal activities will provide a test to both driver and navigator, a unique challenge that doesn’t often feature on the international events.
There will also be opportunities to enjoy driving upon roads and routes long associated with the Monte-Carlo world rally stages, and with the 2021 route revisiting regions last used in 2005 it also provides an opportunity for the rally to visit some of the more forgotten WRC haunts of the past, such as La Champ Raphael and others in the Ardeche region. The speeds associated with this regularity event may not be as eye-popping as those experienced by its stage rallying cousins, but the challenge and the roads will be no less magnificent for it. As well as the famous Col’s and stages that will be encountered, the route is also designed with altitude in mind, and therefore snow could figure, which will surely be the icing on the slippery cake for this stupendous winter event.
Entries Open Now
Entries for this classic event are open now, and for those lucky enough to line up at the start in February next year a magical adventure through France awaits, adorned with the traditions of this now thirty-year-old event, first conceived of by the late and great Philip Young. To follow in the snow-covered wheel tracks of so many that have gone before, both in regularity and stage rallying, with a last stop in surely the world’s most lavish epi-centre of motorsport, Monte Carlo, this is a ‘don’t miss’ opportunity.
