OFFSET YOUR AUTOMOTIVE CARBON FOOTPRINT IN 3 STEPS FROM 2 PENCE PER MILE

13 Oct 2021

NET-HERO has launched an innovative platform for motorists around the world.  Available in 5 languages, individuals are guided through a simple three step process to become environmentally responsible drivers.

NET-HERO LAUNCH THE FIRST PREMIUM CARBON OFFSET PLATFORM FOR MOTORISTS TO BECOME ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE DRIVERS

Simple to use web-based platform for motorists launches today

Motorists can access environmentally responsible driving from circa 2 pence per mile

Covers every car from a Ford Focus to an E-Type Jaguar

NET-HERO offset basket allows drivers to support high quality carbon credit projects

Offset your carbon now

NET-HERO is powered by a database of millions of registered vehicles allowing drivers to accurately calculate the greenhouse gas emissions for new and classic cars. First, motorists enter their vehicle’s details to calculate its carbon footprint.  Secondly, they can contribute to high quality carbon projects by purchasing from the NET-HERO offset basket, developed with decarbonisation specialists BeZero Carbon. Finally, motorists will receive an email certificate and a custom vignette to showcase their new status as an environmentally friendly driver.

With this platform, climate awareness can rapidly turn into climate action. NET-HERO’s AAA+ rated programme* helps motorists offset internal combustion engine emissions for as little as c.2 pence per mile.  Each carbon credit contributes to high quality projects around the world, including afforestation, restoration of peatlands and grass protection. This rating has been developed using a proprietary methodology for assessing the efficacy of certified carbon projects called the BeZero Carbon Rating.

Tomas de Vargas Machuca, Chairman of HERO-ERA explained “HERO-ERA was the first classic and vintage car event platform to become Carbon Neutral for 2020, offering all our competitors an environmentally responsible platform in which to enjoy motoring.  It was only natural that we were to become strategic partners with NET-HERO who allow the individual to offset emissions outside our events.   The teams of NET-HERO and BeZero Carbon have made it quick, simple, and affordable for motorists to offset their vehicle emissions by launching the easy-to-use platform. Whether the vehicle of choice is a Ford Focus or an E-Type Jaguar, users can offset the environmental cost of their driving from as little as 2 pence per mile and play their part in addressing the challenges to strengthening net-zero targets.”

BeZero Carbon is a climate solutions business. In association with NET-HERO, BeZero developed an innovative carbon footprinting framework to quantify the impact of modern & classic cars; and designed a custom AAA+ BeZero-rated offset basket. The projects have been selected using the BeZero Carbon Rating, which assesses the carbon efficacy of credits from each project. Every basket removes the greenhouse gas emissions generated by vehicle engines.

* Every AAA+ rated basket is designed using the BeZero Carbon Ratings, our risk model to discount the carbon returns associated with each individual project. The risk scores are then combined across the portfolio to determine the number of credits needed to achieve the given outcome.

ABOUT

BeZero Carbon is a London-based climate solutions company. Its team of experts offer innovative climate-related products and services, including a proprietary methodology for assessing the efficacy of certified carbon projects called the BeZero Carbon Rating.

Q&A

  • What is carbon offsetting?

Carbon offsetting is a process whereby companies and/or individuals purchase carbon credits from certified projects to support their climate objectives. For example, Company A emits 10,000 tCO2e per year and wants to “offset” its emissions to become carbon neutral or support its transition to Net Zero.

  • How are the carbon offset projects rated and certified?

Project Developers create carbon credits to help pay for Nature-based or technological interventions that generate quantifiable climate benefits.

They follow a certification process by independent bodies, such as Verra or the Gold Standard, who issue methodologies for various type of projects. Only projects that accurately follow these processes are certified, and then able to issue credits for sale.

  • Does this platform cover all cars from vintage to current ICE vehicles, does it cover motor bikes for example?

NET-HERO is powered by a database of millions of registered vehicles allowing drivers to accurately calculate the Greenhouse Gas emissions factors for new and classic cars. It does not currently include motorbikes or other ICE-based vehicle, but we plan to add these in the future.

  • How much does it typically cost to offset a tonne of carbon?

Carbon Credits range in prices from $1 per tonne to $1000 per tonne. The BeZero Carbon Rating ensures NET-HERO’s basket offers the highest quality credits at an attractive price point.

  • What sort of national and international carbon offset projects will be invested in? Give examples.

A full explanation of NET-HERO’s offset portfolio can be found here – https://www.net-hero.org/assets/pdf/NET_HERO_offset_portfolio.pdf

  • How do I show my commitment to being an environmentally responsible driver?

Every NET-HERO member that contributes to carbon projects will receive a custom vignette. Simply stick the vignette on the vehicle’s windscreen to show your new status as an environmentally friendly driver.

  • NET-HERO green credentials – are the platform servers run from green data centres?

NET-HERO is hosted on AWS, which is on the path to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy by 2025. Read more.
