This was your opportunity to apply for a unique and very special scholarship inspired by the late Bob Rutherford who was always helping and encouraging new young talent into historic motor sport. Now in his name, this programme will find and train the next star navigator to compete against the best in the sport on national and eventually, international historic rallies.
You may have some navigational experience from a different sphere or you may have none. However, if the chance to receive full training from professionals, including selected training with the governing body of the sport in this country (Motorsport UK) in part of their Academy programme fires you up, then this was for you. The winner of the Scholarship will be competing for free in four rallies.
It is not often that young navigators are given such support or the chance to start up in a growing branch of rally sport!
Individual mentoring to help evolve individual’s understanding and skill-set
Free entry into all navigation seminars/classes.
Selected training in parallel with MSUK co-driver academy.
Free entry and provision of Arrive & Drive car with experienced driver into the Novice Trial and 3 x HERO Challenges (events subject to change).
Travel and accommodation, subsistence costs paid by HERO-ERA
BRHRS branded bag containing all the navigational aids required supplied from the HERO Store, this would include a poti, stopwatch etc.
This one-year scholarship aims to support and hone the skills of a rising young navigator in the world of historic rallying and teach them everything they need to know to become a top-flight rally navigator.
The scholarship offers the successful applicant the opportunity to learn from some of the leading professionals in the world of historic rallying via classroom and online seminars as well as competing with some of the most highly regarded competitors on four HERO-ERA events throughout the year. The winner will receive mentoring to help evolve their understanding and skill-set whilst using their four events to become familiar with these skills in a live setting on events which will act like a stepping-stones with increased difficulty at each stage.
The aim of the Bob Rutherford Scholarship is to identify and support potential high achievers in Historic Road Rallying. Individuals may have different levels of experience and involvement in motorsport, and the judging panel appreciate this. If you have not been involved in motorsport previously this does not put you at a disadvantage for this scholarship.
HERO-ERA are looking for enthusiastic young people to develop their skill set in the art of historic rally navigation. The process isn’t just aimed at rally enthusiasts but is keen to discover people from organisations such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award, The Scouting Association, Apprenticeships, work schemes and other leading practical movements.
A review of applications will take place by the HERO-ERA judging panel during June 2023 and a shortlist for interview/test day will be produced and announced sometime in June.
The Scholarship Shoot-out for successful candidates will be undertaken during July/August, date to be confirmed.
