The 1602 (the "2" meaning "2-door") made its debut at the Geneva auto show in March 1966 and was sold until 1975 with the designation being simplified to "1602" in 1971.

The 1.6 L M10 engine produced 63 kW (84 hp) at 5,700 rpm and 130 N·m (96 lb·ft) at 3,500 rpm. In 1968, Road & Track declared the US $2676 1600 "a great automobile for the price".

Built by BMW Classic at Park Lane, London, this 1602 has campaigned on a vast array of events from LeJog to Summer Trial - it is a joy to drive and handles superbly.

This car has been supremely reliable, a testament of BMW quality and the HERO-ERA Arrive & Drive team who maintain this vehicle.
